Little Big Planet

24 Hour Game Jam

PETLab Research Faculty, Associates and the Parsons Design and Technology Department teamed up with Sony Playstation 3 and Media Molecule on a 24-hour game design jam using the level-editing tool in the 2008 title, Little Big Planet (LBP). 150 students stayed up all night to build new and unique levels for the pre-release game. Our commercial partners were extremely impressed by the creativity, complexity and ingenuity represented in the students' work. From the PETLab point of view the most exciting outcome was that the event enfranchised many non-gamers in a collaborative and challenging design exercise.
