Spreading the Word is a game on forecast communication, adapted from a classic party game about the degradation of information over time and distance known as “telephone” or “Chinese whispers”. It involves players whispering a phrase to each other, down a line or around a table. When the last person has been told the message, they relay the message back to the group. Typically this end message is radically different from the original message resulting in hilarious outcomes - illustrating what can happens when communications break down between scientists and humanitarian workers during disaster preparedness efforts.
